Reducing the Complexity of the State Transition Diagram

Freeze Drying does not use high temperatures, so we can remove the part of the diagram that includes anything over about 100F.  We do not intend to heat the product beyond ambient temperature.



Likewise, we do not intend to apply high pressures to the product.  This allows us to eliminate all pressures above atmospheric pressure.



These two simplifications reduce the diagram to about 25% of its previous size.


The lower left corner of the diagram is all we need to be concerned with to understand freeze drying.
